The CDT in Applied Photonics held its conference on 1st July 2024 at Heriot-Watt University, at which we formally launched our new ESPRC Doctoral Training Centre in Use-Inspired Photonic Sensing and Metrology.

We were delighted to welcome over 60 delegates to the conference, including our students, alumni, supervisors, former staff, and keynote speakers. The keynote speakers were Dr Jonathan Silver from NPL, and Dr Alison O’Neil from Canon Medical Research Europe.

Our first- and second-year students produced posters, while our third year students gave short presentations and our fourth year students took part in a panel discussion. Congratulations to our prize winners – first years for their joint poster, Satyendra Kutiyal, Brandon Calder, Sean Quinn and Hamish MacKinnon, second-year student, Kamalpreet Gill, for her poster, and joint third-year winners, Christopher Boland and Shannon Thompson, for their presentations.
