In-Person Workshops
In March and April 2022, we were fortunate to restart some of our in-person workshops giving our students the opportunity to get together as a cohort. On 23rd and 24th March we welcomed our second years to the Heriot-Watt campus for Impact Statement Writing and Intellectual Property. This was the first time we have been able to hold in-person skills events since March 2020. The second years also attended a cohort dinner, which was a good opportunity to catch up while on campus.
Impact Statement Writing was delivered by the Research Futures Academy. In this workshop students were able to reflect on why they were drawn to research and their goals for the future. The purpose of this workshop is to provide students with communication skills that will be useful throughout their time on the CDT programme and beyond.
On 24th March our second years were joined by patent attorneys from Abel and Imray for a workshop on Intellectual Property. Abel and Imray have been delivering this interactive workshop for a number of years to CDT students. Working in small groups, students covered intellectual property, copyright, and patents.
On 9th March our third years a attended at training day at Glasgow Science Centre to develop skills in public engagement. They were tasked with creating a hands-on activity that could be used by a variety of audiences to engage and inspire. On 12th April, during a busy day at the Science Centre, our third years presented their interactive displays to children and adults at the Science Centre.
